[Cease and Desist]

Cease and Desist

I think I’m one of the few individuals who doesn’t straight up hate spam. Sure, getting spam emails is mostly annoying, but I’ve decided that I’d have a little bit of fun with ‘em. For instance, I have a cease and desist letter I wrote up that I send to spam that makes it past my Spam Filter.

It has come to my attention that you have made an unsolicited e-mail originated from your organization and was distributed via an anonymous email address.
Based upon the foregoing, I hereby formally request that you (and your organization) immediately cease and desist and stop transmitting and distributing unsolicited e-mail and take the necessary steps to ensure that no further acts of unlawful transmission and distribution of unsolicited e-mail to email addresses owned and controlled by Comrade Smack. We also demand that you confirm to us in writing within three (3) days of receipt of this communication that you will not post or transmit spam or any other unsolicited material in the future. Comrade Smack expressly reserves all rights it may have to take further action against you. We expect your prompt attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
Comrade Smack

Now, I suggest you take that with you and send it to spammers, too. It’s mostly useless and potentially dangerous (as it confirms to the bot that it is an active email address in which to continue spamming) but barring those, it’s quite a bit of fun. Also, email obfuscation is kind of fun to, if you want to know what I mean by that check out my contact page. A lot of people approach that the wrong way by simply changing @ to [at] and the . to [dot] this isn’t very helpful. Honestly, I’d probably rather have spam than fill out stupid CAPTCHAs. Some are ridiculously difficult to read and sites like MySpace have you fill them out every 25 seconds.

I suggest you come up with your own method of obscuring your email address. Reversing moc.niamodym@stunyzzuf works, putting in an an image (CAPTCHA, even) helps.

Off Note:

Sometime next week I’ll be offering a new service/feature. Stay tuned.
