[Ka-ka-ka-chaos!]

December 19th, 2007

I don’t know how much you guys know about myminicity.com, but I’ll assume zero.

Apparently, it’s just a hit-counter. The higher the hits the bigger your city gets. End of story.

Being that I’m a bastard, I’ve set it up so that there is a 50% chance of browsing anywhere in /cms/ that you’ll end up redirected to my particular minicity.

Feel free to hate me.

Oh, and this will only last until roughly 9:00AM CST tomorrow.

[Spam Listing]

December 11th, 2007

I’m compiling Identification Information from Spam that makes it past my email filter. I figure that if someone searches it out, and comes across my Spam Listing page then they’ll know for sure that the email they got was spam.

Spam Listing

That’s the plan, at least.

This is not a collaborative effort right now. Maybe it will be some time.

Below is a collection of spam keywords. If you searched a name or address and came to this page, it means that it’s spam. This is not a collaborative effort for now, it’s just me dumping spam I get (past the filters) because a lot of people seem to look them up.

It’s pretty much imperative that you all go to WarehouseOne.com and check out their front page.

[Lego Storage]

December 10th, 2007

Lego Storage

I don’t know if a while back people had some sort of memo that said “Legos are awesome, and we want everything to look like them” or not, but it almost seems that they did. Anyway, so a few vendors made storage devices that look like Legos and stack like Legos, but otherwise don’t have any added benefit. I want to see this change.

Examples:
LaCie Brick:
LaCie Brick

ZipZip Memory Bricks:
ZipZip Memory Brick

My idea, however, is to have these products actually play off the modularity of Legos. I’d like to see, instead of them all having their own USB adapters, to have them in the bottom of the “brick” as well, so if you stacked them they would RAID (or whatever) together to make larger storage devices. Maybe that wouldn’t work because if you wanted to pull one off you’d have problems, but then they should at least use the same USB port.

So, if you had the same size Pips on all of them you could combine two 250GB LaCie drives and your computer would show the two different drives (but only the bottom one would plug into your computer) or you could stick on various 2GB or 1GB 2 pip by 4 pip (counting the cover) Usb Key drives. All it would take is internal USB hubs. That’d be a problem for stacking together the little ones, but for the larger it shouldn’t a problem at all. I’m sure there are better ways to do it, too.

I’d rather see ingenuity for practical applications than just the aesthetics.

[What I want to see in IE8]

December 6th, 2007

What I want to see in IE8

IE8 is officially being talked about, just not publically. They have released the name of it as being “Internet Explorer 8″ and nothing else. I think a lot about browsers and have entirely blocked Internet Explorer for some time now. So, what would I have to see to let IE back to my site?

1) Standards Compliance.

I know that Firefox isn’t entirely standards compliant. I do know from experience, however, that Internet Explorer works very differently from other browsers and it’s a huge pain in the ass when it comes to designing a website. I’d really like to have them sit down with W3C or even the Opera development team and see what it takes to make a browser behave like you expect it to.

2) Resource Management.

A big problem I have with recent tabbed browsers is the memory is takes to run. I don’t know if that’s because it’s tabbed or if it’s just sloppy coding. However, I’d like to see some innovation regarding memory utilization.

3) Plugins and Extensions.

I really like the extensibility of plugins, addons, extensions, and blaerghsauces. I know that Microsoft doesn’t particularly like playing well with others, but I wouldn’t even be too pissed if they made a bunch of Microsoft Sponsored plugins. Even if they aren’t community made, but instead just bits of browser you can add or subtract that’d be amazing. I love modularity.

4) Some foresight.

There are some amazing things on the horizon for the world wide web, whether it’s “Web 2.0″, Semantic Web, or whatever, they need to plan for some extensibility so they can keep up with the open source Firefox.

For the record, I’m looking for the same things in any browser.

What about you? What features would you like to see?
