[Social Networking]
June 26th, 2007Social Networking
There are definitely a ton of social networking sites out there, I need not list them off. However, I think they are entirely misguided and almost entirely useless. MySpace was originally intended for California Partying. Facebook was originally intended for College kids. This extends to both standard dating style pages and some awkward ones. But to what goal? What purpose? I happen to use Myspace (www.myspace.com/smacktabulous) and I use it almost entirely for keeping in contact with people whose phone numbers I don’t have. For that, they have a purpose, but what past that?
There once existed, and probably will in the future, a social networking site by the name of hakspace.net. I understand that it was developed so that Whitedust would have it’s spam displaced elsewhere, but since I was a beta tester for Hakspace it started to get my thinker thinking. What needs to exist is a website for the tech crowd. I don’t mean one designed for elitism of We-have-this-and-you-can’t-come-na-na-na-na-na. What I do want, however, is a social networking tool that can help produce things. I don’t know what it would be called, but essentially it would be designed for project recruitment. For instance, there’d be a section for inserting projects you have started, what skills are required for potential joiners, and it’s budget/payout (if any). From there a different person could get more information, or, if more secretive, request more information with a Desire-To-Join application. Application would be loosely defined as you could post your skills, which could correspond with the skills required. You could also have an internal forum for each project. It would have this sort of breakdown:

I think this sort of site would have it’s uses, especially once some major project was brought together that otherwise wouldn’t have.  You know, this probably won’t exist until something like this already happens.
