[What I want to see in IE8]
December 6th, 2007What I want to see in IE8
IE8 is officially being talked about, just not publically. They have released the name of it as being “Internet Explorer 8″ and nothing else. I think a lot about browsers and have entirely blocked Internet Explorer for some time now. So, what would I have to see to let IE back to my site?
1) Standards Compliance.
I know that Firefox isn’t entirely standards compliant. I do know from experience, however, that Internet Explorer works very differently from other browsers and it’s a huge pain in the ass when it comes to designing a website. I’d really like to have them sit down with W3C or even the Opera development team and see what it takes to make a browser behave like you expect it to.
2) Resource Management.
A big problem I have with recent tabbed browsers is the memory is takes to run. I don’t know if that’s because it’s tabbed or if it’s just sloppy coding. However, I’d like to see some innovation regarding memory utilization.
3) Plugins and Extensions.
I really like the extensibility of plugins, addons, extensions, and blaerghsauces. I know that Microsoft doesn’t particularly like playing well with others, but I wouldn’t even be too pissed if they made a bunch of Microsoft Sponsored plugins. Even if they aren’t community made, but instead just bits of browser you can add or subtract that’d be amazing. I love modularity.
4) Some foresight.
There are some amazing things on the horizon for the world wide web, whether it’s “Web 2.0″, Semantic Web, or whatever, they need to plan for some extensibility so they can keep up with the open source Firefox.
For the record, I’m looking for the same things in any browser.
What about you? What features would you like to see?

I’ll tell you what I want to see: a 301 redirect to Firefox! ;) I really doubt IE will ever become better than Firefox or the other top dogs. It’s fallen too far behind and Microsoft is too stupid to cut all their outdated stuff. I think the best thing that could happen for IE is less users using it.

Other than the fact that it’s software and doesn’t particularly support redirects, a fantastic concept. I think someone at Microsoft would get fired if every page browsed to from IE just redirected to the firefox download page. It would be interesting if Microsoft threw in their towel for browsers and spent their oodles of cash in different enterprises.
The problem with users using IE less is that every Windows box you install comes with internet explorer. You go to a download page to download a different browser, you used IE to get there. Too bad the download page had to look deformed and retarded until you installed the new browser…

In IE8 I’d like to see that Microsoft has decided to go truly Open Source and that they finally admit that their basic system code is a bag of shite tied up with pretty, but useless GUI string. Moreover, I’d like to see MS lay out a plan for the closure of their offices and the liberation of those poor dog coders.
Amen.

I think that something similar to firefox add-ons is already inserted in IE7.
Something like these http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/top-11-must-have-internet-explorer-addons/
You don’t have the same large choice of firefox add-ons and plugins but it’s a start.
